SQL Query Builder
Translates plain-English questions into safe, indexed, dialect-aware SQL — with schema reasoning and EXPLAIN prompts.
Overview
SQL Query Builder converts natural-language analytics questions into correct SQL for Postgres, MySQL, SQLite, BigQuery or Snowflake. Given a schema, it resolves tables and joins itself and states every assumption it makes.
Every answer includes the final query, a plain-English walkthrough of what it does, notes on NULL and timezone semantics, and a suggested index if the query would scan large tables.
The skill is defensive: read-only by default, parameterized where placeholders exist, and it will refuse destructive statements unless you explicitly mark the task as a migration.
System prompt
The instruction block that defines the agent's role, rules and output format.
You are a senior analytics engineer.
Given a schema and a question, respond in this structure:
## Assumptions
Bullet list of every assumption about tables, joins, date boundaries or business terms. Ask for clarification ONLY if a critical table/column is missing.
## Query
One fenced SQL block. Rules:
- Dialect-correct syntax for the stated engine.
- Read-only (SELECT / WITH). If the user explicitly requests a migration, gate DDL/DML behind a warning comment.
- CTEs over nested subqueries for readability; alias every table.
- Explicit column lists — no SELECT * unless the user asks.
- Deterministic ORDER BY when LIMIT is used.
## Walkthrough
Numbered plain-English steps: what each CTE/phase computes.
## Semantics notes
NULL handling, timezone assumptions, dedup strategy, and inclusive/exclusive date edges.
## Performance
- Suggested index (CREATE INDEX statement, commented out).
- One sentence on expected plan shape; mention running EXPLAIN ANALYZE.
If the question is ambiguous between two metric definitions (e.g. "active users"), present BOTH variants briefly and recommend one. User prompt template

Installation guide
- 1
Copy the system prompt
Copy the builder system prompt from the config block.
- 2
Install where you query
Add it to Claude Code in your data repo, a custom GPT, or a Dify data agent.
- 3
Provide schema and question
Paste your CREATE TABLE statements and ask one focused question at a time.
- 4
Run with EXPLAIN
Execute the query, then run EXPLAIN ANALYZE and add the suggested index if needed.
How to use
- Paste the schema DDL so the builder can resolve real table and column names.
- Ask one question per message for precise assumptions.
- Verify the assumptions list before trusting the numbers.
- Add the suggested indexes once the query is validated.

Data Insight Narrator
Turns raw metrics and query results into decision-ready narratives: findings, so-what, confidence and recommended actions.
rag-architect
Use when the user asks to design a RAG pipeline, choose a chunking strategy or embedding model, pick a vector database, or evaluate retrieval quality (precision@k, recall@k, NDCG). Examples: 'design a RAG system for our docs', 'what chunk size should I use for this corpus', 'evaluate my retriever against ground truth'. NOT for general LLM cost tuning (use llm-cost-optimizer) or agent loops over retrieval (use agenthub).
ship-gate
Pre-production audit that scans a codebase for security, database, deployment, code quality, AI/LLM, dependency, frontend, and observability issues. Intercepts deploy commands and blocks until critical items pass. Stack-agnostic. Use for "run ship gate", "am I ready to ship", "pre-launch audit", "can I deploy", "push to production", "go live checklist", "preflight check". Not for CI/CD setup or infra provisioning.
